Curriculum

Without being embedded in a scaffold of comprehensive curriculum, the science content of individual activities stand a poor chance of being remembered in middle or high school. Ideally, science curriculum is organized vertically based on developmental benchmarks in conjunction with the critical skills needed for inquiry and understanding concepts. These draft curricula are designed to be used in conjunction with an already established 'scaffold' in a school or district. They are 'draft' as folks add to the human and conceptual development paradigm for each area. Contact me with your ideas!

The links below highlight some of the excellent work which has already been done with comprehensive curricula. New Hampshire has done almost all of its work using educator volunteers to interpret past standards and develop a framework which will support the new testing standards. Massachusetts has a professionally done curriculum with some wonderful background philosophy and supporting material. The New Zealand curriculum is unique in that it integrates local natural history and Maori culture with science goals. All three represent different but valuable

viewpoints.
