K-2 Professional Bibliography: Inquiry
AIMS
Education Foundation K-3 science books
http://wwws.aimsedu.org/aims_store/Grades-K-3-p-1-c-31.html
AIMS Foundation does not
provide a ÔcurriculumÕ per se, but they offer excellent activities which pair
math and science. All activities are low cost and well tested before they are
published. Directions are easy to follow and
all materials are
reproducible.
Llewellyn, Douglas Inquire
Within: Implementing Inquiry Based Science Standards , Corwin Press, Inc., Thousand Oaks, CA
2002.
ISBN
0-7619-7745-7
If
you are having a hard time deciphering what ÔinquiryÕ is, this is a detailed
look at the range of ideas that apply to the concept. Some activities are used
to illustrate what inquiry is about. I see this as mainly a reference.
Pearce, Charles R. Nurturing
Inquiry: Real Science for the Elementary Classroom , Heinemann, Portsmouth,
NH, 1999.
ISBN
0-325-00135-9
This is an excellent book
on using inquiry in the classroom, but probably has more for grades 2-5 than
preK-1. There are lots of tools and workshhets reminiscent of materials
developed for book groups.
Reinburg, Claire (Ed.) Mixing
It Up , NSTA Press, Arlington, VA, 2003.
ISBN
0-87355-231-8
This is a good NSTA
collection of beginning activities. About half are appropriate for K-2, so itÕs
a good resource. All of the activities are extensively documented along the
lines of the ÔScience and ChildrenÕ journal articles.
Yager, Robert E. and Enger,
Sandra K. Exemplary Science in Grades PreK-4, NSTA Press, Arlington, VA,
2006.
ISBN
0-87355-261-X
This is a well researched
resource for theory, not activities. It could be an excellent guide for further
exploration.
